S.T.E.P
Seeking To Engage our NT pupils Purposefully (S.T.E.P) is a customised Normal Technical programme started in 2009 to provide a more holistic experience for Normal Technical students.

S.T.E.P Goals
Students will
- be engaged learners where they are responsible and self-disciplined
- develop competencies in Life Skills to be an effective team team player who is resilient and confident
- care for others and the community
These goals are achieved by building character through the various activities in the following focus areas.
- Sports development
- Arts development
- Job Skills Elective Modules
- Values in Action (VIA)
From these different activities, students learnt values and skills which they can apply back in their daily lives and studies. These are also valuable opportunities for the students to demonstrate their confidence and leadership skills.
In 2022, Secondary 3 Normal Technical students were engaged in the following activities.
- Sports such as Archery Tag, Target Archery, Fencing and Inline Skating
- Arts programmes such as learning how to create Art to build confidence, play acoustic guitars and cajons and held a mini performance for school leaders, teachers and school counsellors. Students also used the skills learnt from guitars and cajons to perform for the elderly in their VIA zoom session.
- Job-Skills Elective Modules such as Retail Sales, First Aid Course where students were certified to be First Aiders and culinary workshop where students made gnocchi
- Interdisciplinary programmes from Computer Applications (CPA) and Science (Flight Science Crash Course) and Elements of Business Skills (EBS) and Design & Technology (Duck Tour)
Students recorded their guitar performance, skills that they learnt from S.T.E.P, to engage the elderly in the beneficiary in an online platform. The elderly also played Kahoot! to learn more about the places in Singapore.
In the Retail Sales Elective Module conducted by ITE, students learnt how to identify customer needs and plan store displays and sales promotion events. They also went to VivoCity and Marina Bay Sands to learn about the various stores.
When students proceed to Secondary 4, STEP will focus on preparing students for their Early Admissions Exercise (EAE) to ITE. This programme will train students on writing quality EAE write ups for their EAE applications and equipping students with interview skills.
To further develop the interests of Normal Technical students, Secondary 3 Normal Technical students participated in the ignITE Skills Challenge which was organised by ITE in 2021. This is an annual competition that introduces students to technical skills and fosters a deeper understanding of courses offered by ITE. Two teams emerged as top three in their respective Challenges as shown below.
S.T.E.P collaborated with Infocomm Club, CPA and EBS to mentor students in the respective Challenges in 2022. As a result of this collaboration, four teams of students emerged as top nine teams in their respective Challenges for this national competition.
In the Mad Mocktail Challenge, students had to create an attractive mocktail using layering techniques with an assortment of juices and syrups. The public also had to vote for the Most Likeable Award for the mocktails on Instagram. With the support of staff, students, the School Management Committee, Chapel of Christ the Redeemer, Parents’ Support Group and the Alumni, the team achieved the top prize in the Most Likeable Award. On top of this award, the students were able to display exceptional skills in their layering techniques and creativity in their garnishes during the actual competition and obtained the Second Prize out of 60 teams!
